Spain coach Julen Lopetegui leaves Villa out of his squad

The coach believes that the striker is not in a good shape after his injury

SPAIN VILLA LOPETEGUI / Early this month, Spain demolished Italy 3-0 at the Bernabeu Stadium and NYC FC Villa made his return to the Spanish national team after a long time.

Spain coach Julen Lopetegui called him up because the Spaniard was playing great matches with his club in the MLS. But unfortunately, Villa picked up an injury who left him out in the second match against Lichtenstein.

This time, Julen Lopetegui has left New York City FC forward David Villa out of his squad. In a press conference, the Spanish coach explained his decision.

“He cannot play at the same rhythm that he had when he joined us. Villa picked up an injury and he didn't play regularly in the last period.

Other players are in better shape. This is the reason why I called Callejon up. He is performing well and scoring several goals.”

Julen Lopetegui also spoke about Chelsea's Alvaro Morata.

“He is doing great things in the U.K. Premier League is a very physical league and it's definitely positive that has adapted well to that football. He is a better player right now.”
